Stan & Diane’s Big Catch of the Day in Hawaii

Our Good Friends from CANADIAN FLY-IN FISHING , Stan & Diane wrote to share their catch of the Day…… “It was around 2pm just around the time our trip was scheduled to end soon. It came up twice and I called to the captain to let him know what was happening (we did not have a mate onboard to help us, just the captain), and as soon as I told him this, the fishing rod started screaming line…. we had a marlin on. The fish took over 600 yards of line on its first run and jumped twice. WOW.. the captain said we had a 500lb marlin on the line. I ended up fighting the fish for over 3 hours, hoping the line would not break and the fish would not spit the hook. Once we got the fish to the boat, we saw how big the fish actually was. It was too large to get in the boat (31′ Bertram) so we tied it on to the side of the boat to get it back to shore. Once back in the marina, they were able to get the fish hooked up to a crane and get it weighed. It ended up being almost 12feet long (from the tip of the bill to the tip of the tail) and it weighed 867.5lbs….. Can you say BIG?? This was not a record as the largest one caught in Kona was 1656lbs. I have attached a photo of me and Diane beside the fish but the picture does not do it justice. I kept the bill of the fish and will try to get it mounted.”

Wow what a fish!
