While the fishing is great at Pakwash, you may decide to take advantage of some of the other recreational opportunities the area has to offer.Families love the beach at the camp and there are several other beaches located within a short boat ride or a short walk away from the camp. Take the kids and relax on the beach, or go for a swim in the warm shallow waters of Pakwash Lake.
Nature lovers will relish in the sights and sounds of the vast wilderness, take a stroll along one of the areas trails and see the multitude of flora and fauna that our area has to offer. 
Bring your camera along and capture it for your photo memory books. The area is home to abundant wildlife including moose, bear, fox, wolves, lynx, beaver and is a major nesting area for the majestic bald eagle.
For those interested in the area’s rich history, there are several sites of interest within the area. To the north of Pakwash lake on Hwy 105 is the Griffith Mine Interpretive Trails. This former open pit iron ore mine is now open to the public. The site contains several nature trails with interpretive information panels. You can also see the massive open pits from which iron ore was extracted in years gone by. Pakwash Lake Camp itself is a historic site. During the Red Lake Gold Rush of the early 1900s the Hudson’s Bay Company established a trading post on Pakwash Lake at the point beside our camp. The post was called “Through the Willows” and served as a way-station when the waterways were the main routes of travel.
The meeting of the English and Chukuni Rivers south of Pakwash was called “the mattawa” or “meeting place” and was one of the first Hudson’s Bay Company Posts in the area. Before that time the hill above the confluence of these two great rivers was a meeting place for native peoples of the area.
If golfing is your passion you can take to the links at the Ear Falls Golf and Country Club in nearby Ear Falls. This challenging 9-hole course boasts a clubhouse with licensed dining, cart and club rentals, a roving “bar cart” and a pro shop. A 18-hole golf course is also located north of the camp at Red Lake. Also in Red Lake is the Red Lake District Heritage Centre, a regional museum with interesting exhibits highlighting the area’s rich First Nation, Mining and Fur Trade history.

- Norseman Heritage Park – Red Lake Waterfront Park featuring restored Norseman floatplane
- Red Lake Area Golf and Country Club – Balmertown 18 hole golf course on the shore of Red Lake – club house with restaurant
- Norseman Floatplane Festival – Red Lake Aviation and Community Festival featuring aircraft and entertainment
- Canada Day Celebrations – Ear Falls Beach / Cochenour at Rahill Beach Family entertainment and food on July 1st
- Trout Forest Music Festival – Ear Falls Beach Annual music festival held each August in Ear Falls
